Coach Loach looking chilled at the Young Guns meet
Nelson South hosted another successful swim meet at Hampden Street Pool on Saturday 21 November. The Young Guns Meet attracted 114 swimmers from around the region who competed over the 2 sessions.
Nelson South had a team of 35 swimmers and 28 of them recorded at least 1 pb, giving the club a very respectable 80% success rate for the meet. The meet format was altered this year to accommodate the increasing numbers of swimmers in the region with long distance events held in the morning, and the main program swum in the afternoon.
The club welcomed Bella Gibbons to the team who was competing at her first meet, and she started her competitive swimming with 3 strong swims. It was Ella Patchett's first inter-club meet and she had a great meet with 3 pb's from 3 swims, and another relative newcomer to inter-club racing was Katie Jonas who also had a good day at the pool with 3 pb's from 4 swims. Well done girls!
Ruby-Lou Stuart recorded the biggest pb of the meet with a massive 38.72 seconds off her 1500m free time. In doing so, she also set a new club record for females 13-14, breaking the previous record by well over a minute! Well done Ruby-Lou!
Jett Persico was the other swimmer to set a new Nelson South club record at the meet. Jett set a new record for the 200m breast and overall recorded 4 pb's from 6 swims so it was a very busy but good day at the pool for Jett!
In the afternoon session, Mia Langley recorded the biggest pb by knocking 18.72 seconds off her 100m back time. Mia also took 9 and 7 seconds respectively off her 100m breast and 50m free times in a show of great, solid swimming. The hard work at training also showed for Zara Aydon with 17.62 seconds off her 200m breast time.
And well done to Finella Gibbs-Beal who set a new Swimming Nelson Marlborough record for 11 year old females in the 400IM. Great swimming.
As always, thanks to all the parents who supported our kids at this meet - the club couldn't run meets without your support.
