Nelson South held its Club Champs meet on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd December.  41 swimmers took part in a bid for pb's, club records and age group trophies.  Once again we were lucky with the weather so there was a great atmosphere at the pool over the 3 sessions.

The statistics!  41 swimmers competed over the weekend, including 7 swimmers who were swimming at a meet for the first time.  A big welcome to Finn Bryant, Sam Dukes, Olivia Huata-Findlay, Tom Lynch, Elise Morton, Amelie Pessione and Seirian Tranter.  It's always great to see more yellow caps in the water, and we hope this is the start of a fun and rewarding swim journey!

28 swimmers out of 34 (who have swum before) recorded at least one pb for the meet - so that's another great effort from the team.  The Hall family had a great day in the pool.  Lilly swam 4 pb's from 6 swims and recorded a new time for the 800m free, and big brother Nic swam 7 pb's from 10 swims including big gains in the 200IM (18.89 seconds), 200 breast and 1500m free.  Well done you two :-)  Oliver Morton also had a great meet with 4 pb's from 5 swims including 19.29 seconds off his 100 back and 14.77 off his 100 breast.  PB of the meet goes to Jacob Northage with 114.38 seconds off his 800m free time (and 43.75 seconds off his 1500m free time) whilst Rebecca Loach took 84.51 seconds off her 800m time.

3 new club records were set at the meet.  Well done to Ruby-Lou Stuart and Oliver Stark for breaking their own records in the 200 fly and 100IM respectively - and congratulations to Reuben Lile for breaking another long-standing club record, this time in the male 11-12 age group for 200IM, which had been last set in 1988!!!

The meet summary and club records can be found here .  A full results sheet and individual scores will be released after prizegiving.

This will be the last time we see Oliver Stark swimming at Club Champs for Nelson South.  Oliver and his family are moving to Australia where Oliver will be swimming for a Perth club.  Carl and Fiona are both technical officials so are regularly seen round the pool, and Fiona has been on the club committee this year so all your help has been appreciated and you will all be missed.  Oliver's last meet swimming for the club will be out at the Tasman Xmas Meet on 10th December, but I'm sure we'll hear of Oliver's exploits in the pool as he continues to swim in WA.

And lastly a huge thank you must go out to the Tasman and Waimea technical officials who came along to officiate for us over the weekend to ensure that our meet was official and all the times count.  Your support for our club is very much appreciated. Thank you!
