When the sun is out, Nayland Pool is a pretty good place to spend the day.  Luckily the weather gods were on the side of Swimming Nelson Marlborough as they hosted the Long Course Champs on a beautiful weekend.  Over 100 swimmers from local clubs competed in the region's premier swim event, and our team of 25 Nelson South swimmers excelled!

22 of the 25 swimmers recorded at least 1 pb for the meet, all swimmers had top 5 finishes and in total we brought home 125 medals, 4 age group trophies as well as the YMCA Cup which is awarded to the club with the highest points per entry, and the Laurie-Crabb Trophy (which to be truthful we won by default!).  It all contributed to a great weekend of racing.

Well done to Seirian Tranter for 6 pb's from 7 swims in what was her first big regional meet, Hannah Hobbs for 8 pb's from 14 swims which included 4 silvers and 2 bronze to cap off a great weekend of swimming, and to Emily Bryant for a 50% pb strike rate with 7 pb's from 14 swims including 5 golds, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal.  Kaleb Johnston gets a mention for biggest pb of the meet - 96.93 seconds off his 1500m free time.

Special congratulations to:

Olivia Huata-Findlay - age group champion for 9 year old girls (5 pb's, 4 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze)

Lilly Hall - age group champion for 10 year old girls (3 pb's, 6 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze)

Skye Humphries - age group champion for 11 year old girls (6 pb's, 7 gold, 1 silver, 2 SNM age group records)

Connor Eden - age group champion for 12 year old boys (10 pb's from 17 swims including 8 gold, 1 silver)

Well done to all our swimmers - it was a great team effort over the weekend to bring home the YMCA Cup yet again.  Team morale was high and poolside cheering was loud!!!  Looking forward to the Winter Champs in Blenheim later on in the year :-)
