Sam, Ellie and Eddie with Tim Loach, Head Coach of Nelson South

Ellie, Sam and Eddie flew up to Auckland last week for the NZ Open Championships amidst a flurry of media publicity.  Their smiling faces appeared in the Nelson Mail, Nelson Weekly, The Leader and Nelsonlive.co.nz .

Day One was a cracker with Ellie making the A Final of the 100m breaststroke, coming in 8th and Sam making the B Final of the 50m backstroke, finishing 15th overall.  The yellow caps stood out, and Ellie was in the prime position (Lane 1) in terms of television coverage :-)

Eddie enjoyed the experience.  He competed in two events and did best in the 400IM finishing a credible 15th.

Ellie finished the week on a high, making sure we were all glued to SKY TV to watch the final of the 50m breaststroke.  In the heats Ellie knocked an incredible 1/2 second off her time, setting new SNM age group and open records in the process, and in what was an very exciting final, Ellie finished 6th!

Overall Ellie set 3 new SNM age group records for 17 year old girls in 50m breast, 100m breast and 200IM as well as a SNM open record for 50m breast.  Sam set new SNM age group records for 16 year old girls for the 50m back and 50m fly and an SNM open record for the 50m back.

Congratulation to all three of you!  Results posted here.
