At the beginning of July, we had swimmers competing in Christchurch and Auckland. Here's a wrap on how they went :-)
A young team of 8 swimmers headed down to Christchurch at the beginning of the month to compete at the Wharenui Winter Olympics. The meet was held at Jellie Park Recreation Centre with over 300 swimmers from the Canterbury and Tasman regions taking part - and the Nelson South swimmers aquitted themselves well!
All swimmers recorded at least 1 pb for the meet, with many top 10 placings and numerous medals. Reuben Lile had a great meet with 6/6 pb's, 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal, 1 bronze medal, (AND a 4th and a 5th) as well as biggest pb of the meet with 13.03 seconds off his 200 breast. Nic Hall didn't let the boys down by swimming 8 pb's from 8 swims which included 6 top ten placings. Well done boys :-) Skye Humphries swam well for the girls with 5 pb's from 6 swims which included 1 silver and 1 bronze medal and Lilly Hall had a great weekend with 6 pb's from 8 swims, a bronze medal and 5 top ten placings. All up it was a fun weekend away and a great opportunity to swim against the Canterbury Clubs - as well as eating lots and lots and lots of ribs at the Lone Star :-)
At the other end of the country, Rebecca Loach was combining swimming with shopping by competing at the North Shore SwimFest at the AUT Millenium Pool. This was also a great opportunity to compete against swimmers out of our region and Rebecca did really well with 3 pb's from 6 swims, including 5.85 seconds off her 100m breast and 2 top ten placings. Another highlight from the weekend was meeting the amazingly talented Sophie Pascoe :-)
