Despite a very windy (and hot) day, it was a great day of swimming at Hampden Street Pool for the SNM Country and Town Meet.  The meet was well attended by all the local clubs as well as many visitors from Christchurch, Westport and Greymouth.

Nelson South had 28 swimmers at the meet, 24 of whom pb'd at least once.  Swimmer of the meet would have to be Caitlyn Huhu with 9 pb's from 9 swims. Another two swimmers worthy of a special mention are 9 year old Oliver Morton who recorded 6 pb's from 7 swims, and Oliver Stark who swam 6 pb's from 6 swims.  All three swimmers took sizeable chunks off many of their times and it was Oliver who took out the prize for pb of the meet with 21.04 seconds off his 200m fly time.  They also all featured as medal winners!

Congratulations to our age group medal winners:

Skye Humphries - 1st place, 10 years & under girls
Skye Huhu - 3rd place, 10 years & under girls
Oliver Morton - 2nd place, 10 years & under boys
Caitlyn Huhu - 3rd place, 11-12 year old girls
Reuben Lile - 2nd place, 11-12 year old girls
Oliver Stark - equal 1st place, 13-14 year old boys
Jett Persico - 3rd place, 13-14 year old boys
Georgina Trengrove - 2nd place, 15 & over girls

15 new NSSC Club Records were (unofficially) set, which can be found here along with a full set of results.

2 new Swimming Nelson Marlborough records were also (unofficially) set.  A big congratulations to Skye Humphries for a new record for 100m breastroke (10 year old girls) and to Ellie Rukuwai for setting a new record for 200IM (17 years and over girls).

Many of our swimmers were also featured in a great write-up of the meet in the Nelson Mail.

A thank you, as always, to all our parent helpers who contributed to make the meet so successful.  Special mention to Cheryl and Hamish Baxter who worked tirelessly all day at the successful cafe and bbq.
