489 swimmers from around the country converged in Auckland over the weekend of 19-21 February to compete at the SNZ Junior Championships.  Nelson South sent a team of 5!  Congratulations to Zara Aydon, Finella Gibbs-Beal, Rebecca Loach, Skye Humphries and Lilly Hall for your achievements and for representing the club at this national level meet.

The meet was held at the Sir Owen G Glenn National Aquatic Centre which is part of AUT Millennium.  It was exciting to be at the pool where New Zealand's high performance swimmers train!

Well done to Lilly who swam 3 pb's from 3 swims.  At just 9 years old, she well and truly held her own in the 10 years & under age group and her results included a Top 10 finish (8th) in the 100m breast.  Fantastic!  Lilly has qualified for next year's Juniors - and will be definitely one to watch!

Finella thrilled us in the 200m free by finishing 5th and also went under 1.10 in the 100m free to finish 14th.  Finella also swam strongly in the 200m back and 50m free with 2 more pb's which gave her 4 pb's from 6 swims overall for the meet. Finella has also qualifed for next year's Juniors.

Zara arguably qualified for the toughest events of the meet with swims in the 400IM, 200m fly and 400m free.  It was her first appearance at Juniors and she aquitted herself well with 2 pb's from her 3 swims.  Well done!

Rebecca had 4 individual swims at the meet.  She had 2 good pb's in the 50m breast and 50m fly and was close to her best in the 100m and 200m breast. Rebecca is another 2017 qualifier.

Skye qualified for 2 events this year.  She pb'd her 200m breast and is 2 splits off next year's qualifying time and it was fun to see Rebecca and Skye square off against each in other in the 100m breast coming down the 2 outside lanes side by side.

Once again, well done to all of our Junior swimmers.  You did the club proud!  Full results here.

Finally, huge thanks and a big shout out to Mainland Foundation who granted the Club a donation to contribute towards the accommodation and car hire costs of the team.  Your support is greatly appreciated!
